The ‘Ivan Matetić Ronjgov’ cultural institution emerged from the ‘Ivan Matetić Ronjgov’ cultural and educational association. It was established in 1994 by a decision of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Assembly. With its seat in Ronjgi, Viškovo, the institution is committed to preserving cultural heritage and authentic folklore and reviving the customs of the Halubje area. The programme and activities of the institution encompass several segments of culture.
The ‘Ivan Matetić Ronjgov’ house is a memorial museum. The memorial room is located where Ivan Matetić Ronjgov was born and represents the nucleus of the memorial home exhibition, featuring all the important documents connected to Matetić’s personal and professional life.
Another important aspect of the institution’s work is publishing, aimed at promoting and printing books and musical literature in the Chackavian dialect. The association organises scientific meetings aimed at researching the life and work of significant writers, artists and other prominent figures of the region whose work has left a significant mark on our region. With the aim of enriching the cultural life and tourist features of the Municipality of Viškovo, the institution organises events such as Matetićevi dani, Mantinjada pul Ronjgi, Večer pul Matetićevega ognjišća, Proljeće u Ronjgima, Kanat pul Ronjgi, etc. In order to preserve the tradition of handicrafts in the Halubje area, the institution established, among other things, the Delavska Katedra Association, which has initiated several local projects such as competitions in mowing and reaping, as well a catalogue of traditional items of the Halubje area called ‘Da se ne pozabi’ (So we don’t forget).
