{"id":1724,"date":"2019-05-26T14:57:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-26T14:57:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/visitviskovo.hr\/viskovo\/kulturna-bastina\/cakavska-rijec-i-glazba\/"},"modified":"2020-05-21T10:13:29","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T10:13:29","slug":"cakavska-rijec-i-glazba","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/visitviskovo.hr\/en\/viskovo\/kulturna-bastina\/cakavska-rijec-i-glazba\/","title":{"rendered":"Language and music"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\n\nThe Municipality of Vi\u0161kovo is part of Liburnia, a region whose administrative centre until the mid-20<sup>th<\/sup> century was Kastav, which is why this area is known locally as Kastav\u0161tina.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <strong>LANGUAGE <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The local language is a Liburnian variety of the Chakavian\ndialect with a consistent Ekavian pronunciation of the Slavic sound &#8216;yat&#8217; and with\nEkavian noun endings. The special (softer) pronunciation of the &#8216;\u0107&#8217; sound and the\nretention of the Old Slavic consonant clusters &#8216;\u0161\u0107&#8217; and &#8216;\u010dr&#8217; are also\ncharacteristic of this dialect. The sound &#8216;l&#8217; is not vocalised, the sounds &#8216;lj&#8217;\nand &#8216;\u0111&#8217; have been replaced with &#8216;j&#8217;, the sound &#8216;d\u017e&#8217; does not exist, and the\nsound &#8216;nj&#8217; is pronounced as &#8216;n&#8217;j&#8217;. Today, the vocabulary still includes certain\nold grammatical forms and words, and also a substantial number of Italian loan words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Certain specific and very old linguistic features have\nbeen best preserved in Mar\u010delji. For example, the pronunciation of &#8216;u&#8217; instead\nof &#8216;v&#8217; has almost disappeared, but some distinctive aspects such as the change\nfrom &#8216;o&#8217; to &#8216;u&#8217; at the beginning of certain words and the same endings for masculine\nand feminine words have been retained.\n\nThis linguistic heritage is\nalive and fostered both orally and in written form.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifi\u010dne, vrlo stare jezi\u010dne osobine ostale su najdulje sa\u010duvane u mjestu Mar\u010delji. Izgovor&nbsp;<strong>u&nbsp;<\/strong>umjesto&nbsp;<strong>v<\/strong>&nbsp;(<em>dua &#8211;&nbsp;<\/em>dva) je u izmumiranju, ali jo\u0161 se je na po\u010detku rije\u010di zadr\u017eala zamjena o glasom u te izjedna\u010davanje u nastavku mu\u0161kog i \u017eenskog roda imenica (<em>unda &#8211;&nbsp;<\/em>onda<em>, z Anun &#8211;<\/em>&nbsp;s Anom<em>, pod stolun &#8211;&nbsp;<\/em>pod stolom<em>).&nbsp;<\/em>Jezi\u010dna ba\u0161tina je \u017eiva i svesrdno se njeguje u usmenom i pisanom obliku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> <strong>MUSIC <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The UNESCO Representative\nList of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity contains two-part singing,\nwhich was first notated and systematised by the ethnomusicologist and composer\nIvan Mateti\u0107 of Ronjgi, who studied the music of the people of the Kastav area.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Istrian scale<\/strong> consists of six tones in specific relationships and provides the basic theoretical system for the folk music of Istria, the Croatian Littoral and the Kvarner islands. It was named after the Istrian peninsula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The <\/strong><em><strong>sopile<\/strong><\/em> is the best-known traditional instrument in the Kvarner area. It is a woodwind instrument similar to the oboe or shawm, an old European instrument with a double reed and conical bore. The <em>sopile<\/em> is always played in pairs, one player playing the <em>small sopila<\/em> and the other the <em>great sopila<\/em>. The instrument has six fingerholes and is made of maple wood.
