Jelenje is located only 15 kilometres from Rijeka, a karst area at an altitude of around three hundred meters, which is the reason for its Mediterranean-continental climate. The speech of the indigenous population is the Chakavian speech of Grobnik, which was declared a protected intangible cultural property of the Republic of Croatia.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Parish Church of St. Michael is the oldest and biggest building of historical and cultural significance in the Jelenje Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the rich and carefully preserved tradition in Jelenje, which you will find comfortable and easy to travel through, we would like to emphasize the milkmaids (mlikarice) – women who have historically carried milk daily for sale to Rijeka. They have been dedicated a special event in May \u2013 \u201cA Lantern that has left its mark\u201d (Feral ki je pu\u0161\u0107al sinjal).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Martinovo Selo is the only surviving and working mill in the entire Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Ga\u0161par’s Mill, built 350 years ago. In Dra\u017eice there has been a “kova\u010dija” for more than 70 years, the only blacksmith shop with its space preserved in the original form and today part of the tourist offer of Jelenje. It is interesting that the first owner, Antonio Mar\u010delja, had a blacksmith diploma acquired through education in Vienna, in the period from 1913 to 1918.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a story and testimonies of the old crafts, it is an interesting journey to the past…  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
